Just saying the words – KEY WEST – puts a bit of magic in the air. The smells of the briny sea all around, the sounds of laughter and celebration from Duvall Street, the visions of swaying palm trees and Crayola colored bungalows. Even if you’ve never been there in person, many people have it on their bucket list.
But KeyWest is busy. Very busy.
When a destination is that popular, it’s a challenge to book a room on the fly or even comfortably afford a longer stay. So, the question came up. Can you round-trip it? Can you drive from the Miami area and back in a day? Of course you can. The total drive is around 8 hours. The better question is: Should you drive from Miami to KeyWest in a day? It’s a challenge because the time budget is low to make it back it back at a reasonable hour.
Ride along in my YouTube video and decide for yourself if you want to attempt cruising to Key West and back…in ONE day. My top reasons are: Visiting the Old Florida vibe, Cruising the Overseas Highway (one of the most scenic drives in the USA), AND, of course, walking Duvall Street and visiting Key West. Key West has so much, even if you’re there for just a few hours. You can visit the famous conch houses, walk Duvall Street and take your picture at the Southern Most Point in the United States. Totally worth it for me.
But YOU decide for yourself. It is a very long day.
